Further Excursions
Up behind Puerto Vallarta in the Sierra Madres Mountains
are old mining towns that are completely different from Puerto
Vallarta.
At 4,300 ft. with pine trees, the air is crisp and clear, while
at night it can be quite cold.
Founded in 1605, San Sebastian
del Oeste was one of the silver mining centers of Mexico.
At one time a provincial
capital of 40,000
people, you will find it strangely deserted with only about 1,200
people living there now.
There are a couple of Hotels and the old Hacienda. You can
get there, and to other even more remote
towns and villages, by bus. Or you can go by private air conditioned
vehicle for $50.00US per person, if you can get 10 people together
(it's a $500.00US min.), including your guide, lunch is not included,
but there are some nice restaurantsto choose from. Click
Here for more info.
