Free Puerto Vallarta Documentary Event Will Screen Six Marine Films
A free documentary event in Puerto Vallarta will bring six films about marine conservation to CUCosta next Monday, September 21, with activities scheduled from 11:00 to 17:00.
“Documentales para la Vida: Reimaginando el futuro que queremos” will take place at the Auditorio Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus of the Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta).
The activities are open to students, academics, businesspeople, residents, and tourists.
Organized by the Asociación de Empresarios de Puerto Vallarta y Bahía de Banderas (AEBBA), the event is being held in partnership with Nado por las Ballenas, with CUCosta collaborating.
It will include a discussion panel with experts from CONANP, PNUD México, and the host organizations.
The documentaries address threats facing the marine ecosystems of Bahía de Banderas and the Mexican Pacific, including plastic pollution, ghost nets, and the entanglement of marine wildlife.
The selection includes productions made in collaboration with Plastic Oceans, Trees & Seas Film Festival, and Blue Whales Blue Skies.
One film, Un Océano de Plástico, directed by Craig Leeson, reveals the devastating impact of plastic pollution on the oceans and human health.
El Mierdotropoceno, made by David Garrett Byars, critically analyzes disposable consumption and its effect on the ecological crisis.
Regreso. Salvando a las Tortugas, made by Ignacio Loera, documents the work of local brigades to protect sea turtles in Mexico.
La Batalla de las Azules, made by Adam Ernster, shows efforts to protect the blue whale, the largest animal on the planet.
Brazadas en la Penumbra, directed by Jorge Morales, will have its national premiere.
It depicts the fight against ghost nets and tells the origin of the Nado por las Ballenas movement.
Proyectos para la Conservación en el Pacífico mexicano, also made by Jorge Morales, compiles scientific and community actions to preserve local marine biodiversity.
The annual arrival of whales in Bahía de Banderas represents an opportunity for local society to transform its relationship with the ocean and symbolizes nature’s resilience.
The event seeks to inspire hope and commitment to conserve the marine life surrounding the community.
The organizers invite the community to participate in the dialogue and reflection space.
They state that every collective action, from reducing plastic consumption to supporting responsible fishing, is essential for the recovery of the seas.
