Entreamigos marks 20 years in San Pancho
Entreamigos is a community hub in San Pancho focused on increasing educational opportunities for children of San Pancho. Its 20th anniversary season celebrates 20 years of bringing local families, students, and neighbors together and recognizes the contributions of its staff, volunteers, donors, and sponsors. The center began 20 years ago as a gathering around a kitchen table in the middle of a street.
Entreamigos is now housed in a state-of-the-art facility known for its sustainable design and is almost completely run by volunteers. It is entirely funded by donations. Residents and visitors may use its resources, take a class, or share their skills and talents there. The center runs educational and community-based workshops and initiatives, along with educational workshops and activities.
Entreamigos has a computer center, a computer lab, a library, and a recycling center. It also has a thrift store, a gift shop, and an art collective non-profit store. It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and is located at Av. Tercer Mundo No. 12 in San Francisco, Nayarit, Mexico. More information about Entreamigos’s programs and activities is available at entreamigos.org.mx.
Its scholarship program helps local young people pursue their education regardless of their families’ financial circumstances. Annual scholarships are available for $700 USD for primary and high school students and $2,500 USD for university students. The program covers uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and transportation in addition to tuition. Scholarship students receive access to emotional intelligence classes and free access to all of Entreamigos’s programs, while their families can participate in workshops.
The scholarship program is welcoming 18 new students this season, and Entreamigos is extending its scholarship support beyond San Pancho into neighboring communities. Entreamigos reopened its doors on October 12 after a summer break.
Its 20th Anniversary Celebration and annual fundraising auction will take place on Tuesday, November 17, beginning at 6:00 pm. Community members can attend in person or online. People who want to donate auction items, services, or special experiences can contact Alba Maya at +52 332-348-2148 or alba(at)entreamigos.org.
The Ashoka LATAM Gathering will take place October 28–30 and will bring together educators, community leaders, and changemakers from around the world. Organized in partnership with Ashoka Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, the gathering will examine approaches to education and sustainability and discuss ways to create lasting, positive change. Fundación MetLife supports the gathering.
